Sony Boss “Hates” Annualized Franchises

Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida isn't a fan of annualized franchises. In fact, the PlayStation exec went so far as to say he "hates" them, when speaking at a panel during the DICE Summit.

According to IGN, who was in attendance at the event, Mr. Yoshida explained that because development cycles are getting more and more intensive, pushing for a new entry in a series every year can be problematic and speaks to the lack of understanding amongst marketing executives.

Do you agree with Yoshida's thoughts on annualized franchises? Could a series like Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed benefit from taking a year or two off?
