These Bizarre Sounds in Splatoon Have Everyone Puzzled Including Its Lead Designer

Splatoon has been a hot topic among gamers this Summer. Although most of the discussion has been geared towards its competitive side, the discovery of some creepy sounds has been trending this past week.

Some of the people playing Splatoon have encountered environmental effects in the game at certain moments that sound more like something you'd hear in Silent Hill than Nintendo's latest child-friendly title. Faint screaming and metallic notes can be heard in the distant background, leaving spectators wondering if the noises are coming from another source.

Lead designer Tsubasa Sakaguchi shared the following with Eurogamer after learning about the sound:

It’s the first time I’ve heard this! I was the one who was in charge of the mechanics and the effects for the final boss. Towards the end, though, I was running out of time so I was asking the staff around me to do things for me—like the staff credits and many other things.

A video showing some of the sounds after the final boss battle can be seen here:

This might be the work of a troll on the development team given how far it strays from Splatoon's theme. Truthfully, it just makes me want Silent Hills more than ever.
