Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s “Dramatic Changes” Will Be a Good Thing

Square Enix game director Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Remake will feature "dramatic changes" to the game's combat system. Fortunately, however, it won't be altered beyond recognition.

"We’re not going to be changing it into a shooter or something like that," Nomura said in an interview with Official PlayStation Magazine (via GamesRadar). "We are going to be bringing dramatic changes, but we want to make sure it’s still recognizable."

However, that's not all that is changing with Square's remake, as Nomura also confirmed that the game's visuals will be inspired by the 2005 movie Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. With that said, the studio doesn't plan "on utilizing the 3D models of Advent Children as is because, well, it’s a different technology, and it’s actually been almost ten years since Advent Children was first released."

So what do we make of all this? Should hardcore fans of the original be enraged at the changes? I'd argue against that sort of reaction. After all, if you want the pure, original FFVII experience, you already have it for original PlayStation. Plus, the remastered Steam version is making its way to PS4 this year as well.

No, FF7 Remake is an entirely different beast, as it should be. Do you really want the same experience just re-skinned? The more I imagine how that might look, the more I realize I'd rather see Square do something new by implementing some "dramatic changes." So instead up getting all upset over this news, I'm holding out hope with cautious optimism, and if you're a fan of the franchise, I suggest you come at it with the same mindset.
