One of Microsoft's greatest successes with the Xbox One is how it has listened to fan feedback to refine the operating system with better mechanics and more features. It's done this with what it calls the Xbox One Preview Program, one that has tens of thousands of participants who test and offer feedback for upcoming updates. It's also something that Sony hasn't necessarily tried to equal… until now.
Sony has announced that beginning in September it will host a beta program for the PS4. In this beta program users will be able to preview upcoming updates for the system and submit feedback. Using the feedback, Sony plans to cater future updates for its audience while simultaneously testing its code for bugs.
To enroll in this program, head over to the official PlayStation site where you'll be asked some questions.
It is currently unclear if all those who enroll will be eligible, but it's likely that Sony will randomly select participants given the open nature of its enrollment process.
Sony states that the beta program poses no risk for your PS4, as you'll be able to roll back to a previous software update if any issues are encountered.
Common gamer requests for future updates include a refinement of the Library section, categorization of main menu elements, and improvements to the messaging system.
