Top 10 Best Mods For Stardew Valley

Within days of launch Stardew Valley's community has produced a wealth of mods for the game. Some add new features, others modify the visuals, and all of them provide options for how people enjoy the game.

Before we list our favorite mods for Stardew Valley, there are two important things to note. For one, you will want to back up your current save before installing mods, as there could be bugs that result from your changes to the environment.

Backup your save file here:

"C:/Users/[WINDOWS USERNAME]/AppData/Roaming/StardewValley/Saves"

To install a mod you will need to overwrite an XNB file in the game's directory with the mod file. Once again, you may want to consider backing up the existing file so that you have something to fall back on in case of emergency.

Place mod files here:

"C:/Steam/steamapps/common/Stardew Valley/Content"

Some mods will also require installation of a package called SMAPI. A mod's forum page will tell you whether or not it's required, and wil provide a download link.

Now, let's get to the top 10 mods of Stardew Valley.

Anime Style Portraits

Many members of the community have voiced that they are unhappy with the default portraits. Thankfully, it's easy to update the base images. In one case a user has created a set of portraits that resemble Japanese anime. They are much more detailed than the defaults and completely alter the way you visualize the characters. Your proper waifu is just a download away. Note that these only adjust the portraits, not the in-game models. However, given the sprite-based nature of the game, portraits are a very important element of imagining the world.

Easier Fishing

Enter Easier Fishing, a mod that makes every fish easier to catch. This is the mod what you want if you've been frustrated by fishing, and simply want to supplement your income without worrying about 40 inch fish that are more difficult to catch than the Zodiac Killer.

Items Show Sell Price

Okay, so this mod might not have the prettiest name, but don't let that keep you away. Items Show Sell Price allows you to quickly view the vendor price of each item in your inventory. Using it, you can quickly gauge how valuable an item is, allowing you to determine whether or not to chuck something into the ocean or send it off to be sold at your local swap meet.
