Notch: Calls EA “Cynical Bastards”, But “Twitter Quotes Are NOT NEWS”

This is probably better as a manifesto, but posting this as news is much more entertaining.

Markus Persson, aka Notch, aka Mojang founder, aka Minecraft game developer, aka "not a boss of anyone", is not happy with how journalists are treating his Tweets, specifically those that blame Electronic Arts for their so-called "indie" business practices:

EA releases an "indie bundle"? That's not how that works, EA. Stop attempting to ruin everything, you bunch of cynical bastards.

Fwiw, I don't even call Mojang inde any more. Vlambeer is indie. Polytron is indie. Stephen, Ed, Terry, Derek, Tommy and Chris are indie.

Indies are saving gaming. EA is methodically destroying it.

His statements eventually turned into "news" articles… cue outrage:

I got into trouble on the interwebs again! The games in the bundle are good, I'm not questioning them. I'm questioning EA.

Reporters are reffering to me as "boss"? I am not the boss of anyone! Founder and game developer only.

Twitter quotes are NOT NEWS. You're better than that, and you make me feel dirty.

Yes, well, twitter is great for finding out about news. It's not a news source.

Twitter is "public statements" now? I thought it was just random opinions and bad puns.

All right there, Notch, just calm down. Breathe. We agree with you. The concept of an EA Indie Bundle is an oxymoron. Ha, ha, we get it. Go indies.

We know that Twitter is just about as credible as Wikipedia as a news source, but don't pretend that your Tweets shouldn't be treated as short public statements. You are a public figure in the games industry now. You've got 679,055 followers. You're the founder of an extremely popular video game. Your opinions are news now. That's how it works.

If you were still indie, things would be different, but you don't even call Mojang indie anymore. Maybe you didn't want this, but you matter. Or at least a lot of people think you do, and that's what counts.

Hopefully, that isn't news to you.
