Radical Entertainment Closes

Activision has closed the doors to Radical Entertainment, the developer behind the Prototype series. Audio designer Rob Bridgett confirmed the sad news via Twitter today.

"Although we made a substantial investment in the Prototype IP, it did not find a broad commercial audience," Activision said. "Radical is a very talented team of developers, however, we have explored various options for the studio, including a potential sale of the business, and have made a difficult conclusion through the consultation process that the only remaining option is a significant reduction in staff. As such, some employees will remain working for Radical Entertainment supporting other existing Activision Publishing projects, but the studio will cease development of its own games going forward."

Prototype 2 was a fun game, albeit not an outstanding one. In this day and age, I'll take fun over half of the regurgitated stuff that churns out each year. Apparently though, it did not sell as well as Activision wanted, a/k/a, millions of copies in weeks, so that required a closing of the doors. If a Call of Duty game ever crashes and burns, look out Infinity Ward; you're obviously next.
