Dead by Daylight is built on the various characters-both survivors and killers-that you trick out to your content with perks, hairstyles, loadouts, and of course, clothing. Like any other online game, cosmetic items that affect your appearance (and not gameplay itself) are just as important in Dead by Daylight. However, unlike other games, it isn’t as obvious how you unlock new outfits in the popular asymmetric survival horror game. That’s where we come in. We’ve got you covered on how to unlock more options for your cosmetic needs.
Paid DLC
Controversy aside, developers do use paid DLC items as an option to unlock new outfits for your character, and Dead by Daylight is no different. Though the current customization DLC is rather limited on PS4 and Xbox One so far (more to come starting with the Halloween update), Dead by Daylight has a multitude of DLC to purchase on PC that unlock new outfits for various characters.
These DLC outfits have no effect whatsoever on gameplay, perks, and so on. They are purely cosmetic, and are certainly the quickest-and easiest-way to give your favorite survivor or killer a new look for just a few extra bucks.
Prestige
For those that have no desire to shell out more money for a new look but still want to customize their character, there is one option: prestige. Call of Duty fans will recognize this feature as a huge part of that franchise, and it plays a major role in Dead by Daylight as well. Despite this, the game never makes you aware that prestige is an option in the game until you reach the point you can do it.
If you don’t know what prestige is, it’s simply reaching the maximum level of 50 in Dead by Daylight and choosing to reset your level back to one in exchange for various exclusive items. Before we jump into what you unlock with prestige, we should give you some warnings in regards to the system. Choosing to prestige causes you to lose these key features for that character:
- Lose all current progress and return to level one
- All items
- Add-ons
- Offerings
- Perks
- Perk slots
With that said, prestige can be done up to three times for one particular survivor and once for killers. Each prestige unlocks something new for that survivor or killer:
- First prestige unlocks Bloody T-Shirt skin for that survivor (or entire set for killer)
- Second prestige unlocks Bloody Trousers skin
- Third and final prestige unlocks Bloody Face skin
