Okami HD Coming to Consoles Later This Year

After rumors and leaked store listings last month (via Kotaku UK), Capcom officially revealed today that it will be releasing an HD remaster of the beloved artistic masterpiece that is Okami on PS4, Xbox One, and PC later this year.

Okami HD is a port of the original high-definition remaster that was released on PS3 back in 2012, supporting the PlayStation Move controller for motion controls.

Motion controls originally were featured in the 2008 Wii port of the award-winning game, after its initial release in 2006 on PS2. While there are no motion controls for Okami HD, it will instead support both the PS4 Pro and soon-to-be-released Xbox One X for 4K graphics.

As it is also coming to PC, it will be supporting 4K resolution on that platform as well, as long as it meets all of the unspecified system requirements. If you are looking to play Okami HD in a more nostalgic way, the option to play it in the original 4:3 aspect ratio instead of the modern widescreen format will also be available.

Okami HD

Okami HD has you play as the Japanese goddess Amaterasu as she inhabits the body of a wolf on a quest to defeat Orochi, an evil demon responsible for the destruction of the land.

A notable missing component from this announcement is any word on a Nintendo Switch version. Okami HD is fondly remembered as a Zelda-like game and it did also come to Wii, so a Switch version does make sense. If anything, it could be coming at a later date or simply is waiting to be announced at tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct.

Okami HD is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC on December 12th, 2017 for the low price of $19.99. This remaster could very well be testing the waters for an eventual sequel. Is that something you’d like to see? Would you want to see a Switch version come out, too? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
