Path of Fire

Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire – Mounts Guide

One of the surprising features that Guild Wars 2 has lacked for some time are mounts. A feature that most other modern MMO’s (and some older ones) like Final Fantasy XIV and World of Warcraft have, it has been long-requested and desired from its dedicated community.

Though you can transform at certain points in the story and various quests throughout Guild Wars 2 and its predecessor, there has never been the option to hop onto a mount at anytime, wherever you are.

The Path of Fire expansion changes all of that for the MMO. There are a total of five mounts that you can acquire over the course of the Path of Fire storyline. Some are given through the story, while others require optional work on your end. You aren’t required to choose between them and can actually gain all of them should you choose.

Because the fifth and final mount, Griffin, is so extensive in its requirements, we will do a separate guide just for it later on. As for the first four, here is how you can acquire all of them in Path of Fire:

Path of Fire – Raptor Mount

Path of Fire

This is the only mount that you gain directly through the story. Therefore, it is the easiest and most simple one to acquire. After beginning the Path of Fire expansion, you will be thrust into the first prologue mission: Sparking the Flame.

This mission will have you saving a village in the new area Crystal Desert from a herald of the god of war Balthazar. In the middle of doing so, you will be given the raptor mount as part of the objective you have to complete. The raptor has the biggest leap necessary for map traversal.

Path of Fire – Springer Mount

Path of Fire

The Springer is required at a certain point to continue the Path of Fire storyline, but is acquired through optional expansion content. This bunny mount has several prerequisites before you can gain it.

First, you have to unlock third tier Mastery level for the raptor mount you already have called Canyon Jumping. This will allow you to access the High Jump Ranch region in the northwest desert highlands.

Complete the region’s heart, after which you will need to talk to the Stablemaster Unja and purchase Springer from him for 50 trade contracts and one gold. The Springer bunny mount has the highest health and jump, but lacks evasiveness.

Path of Fire – Skimmer

Path of Fire

The Skimmer is a stingray-like creature that is completely optional and isn’t necessary to progress the story. Like the Springer, you need your raptor to be tier three Mastery level to access the southwest region of Elon Riverlands, specifically Skimmer Ranch.

You also gain this through completing the region’s heart. Once done, talk to Skimmer Trader Ardra to purchase it for 50 trade contracts and four gold. The Skimmer is able to “skim” on harsh ground like water, quicksand, and sulfur.

Path of Fire – Jackal

Path of Fire

This Jackal dog-like creature is made completely of sand. The mount is acquired by achieving third tier Mastery of either the Springer or Skimmer. The easier option is using the Skimmer through the sulfur to access the area Djinn Enclave in Sand Jackal Run in the southwest Desolation map.

Complete the heart in that area, and talk to Drojkor, Spirit Squall. Purchase the Jackal for 200 trade contracts and 20 gold on the day of completion, or will have to pay more later. The Jackal evades attacks the best and can shift through sand portals in the desert to reach hidden locations with its third Mastery level.
