The God of War release date may have been leaked by an online retailer in Europe. The online video game store Gamescom has listed next year’s God of War for PS4 as releasing on May 23rd, 2018. Games typically release in Europe a day later than in North America – as was the case with Uncharted: The Lost Legacy – so the potential release date here could be May 22nd, 2018.
These dates certainly line up with typical video game release dates in North America and Europe, as Tuesday and Wednesday are the usual sale dates in each region respectively. Barring the recent trend of moving games to a Friday release, it is reasonable enough to believe that Sony would release God of War on those days looking at prior releases from this year like Horizon: Zero Dawn and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.
Paris Games Week came and went without a peep from Sony regarding the official God of War release date. A new trailer for the key first-party PlayStation 4 title was shown off, giving us a glimpse of the action and mechanics with Kratos’ son Atreus that we can expect to see when it releases next year.

It’s worth noting that even though video game release dates like this happen fairly often because of online retailers like Gamescom, you should take this leaked God of War release date with a hefty grain of salt. Despite not giving a specific date, Sony did give the general window of early 2018.
A God of War release date of May 2018 puts it technically still in the first half of next year, but also in the second quarter of the fiscal year. It’s also important to remember that all previous mainline God of War games have released in the month of March, so this could end up being incorrect.
