Star Wars Battlefront 2 Microtransactions Removed Darth Vader, Beautiful Graphics

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Microtransactions Have Been Removed Indefinitely

In fact of massive fan backlash, EA and DICE have confirmed the removal of microtransactions from Star Wars Battlefront 2. You can no longer purchase or use Crystals, the game’s premium currency. Instead, you’ll now have to earn Star Cards, Heroes, and other items via a natural progression system.

Battlefront 2’s loot box system took what could be a great game and made it into a roulette wheel. Star Cards, which are used to boost or change your abilities, could only be gained one of two ways. Either by finding them in a loot box, or using Upgrade Material from loot boxes to craft the card you want. There was no way to sidestep being involved with the lootbox system, and it made fans angry.

DICE General Manager, Oskar Gabrielson, released a statement via Twitter and the official website confirming the deactivation of microtransactions and premium currency in Battlefront 2. He stated that DICE hears fans’ concerns loud and clear and that the studio will spend more time listening, adjusting, balancing, and tuning the game.

Well, it appears that EA has actually considered that, and is working towards balancing the game progression to be free of premium purchases. Instead, Star Wars Battlefront 2 will allow you to gain Star Cards, weapons, and heroes in a way like Battlefield has: by playing the game.

It’s possible that when DICE implements the cosmetic system that loot boxes will be available for purchase with premium currency that contain clothes and accessories to dress up your trooper or new liveries for your ships. I think that’s a lot more acceptable than what the game was intended to launch with.

Details are scarce on what Battlefront 2’s new progression will look like, but all in-game purchases are gone for now. Crystals will be reintroduced at a later date, but it’s not known in what capacity.
