Devil May Cry 5 Leak Reveals Return of Old Dante and PS4 Exclusivity

A huge Devil May Cry 5 leak has surfaced online, with it reportedly containing information regarding the unannounced game’s story, gameplay and a PS4 exclusivity deal.

The leak was posted to ResetEra by Son of Sparda, and while it hasn’t been confirmed, noted industry analyst and forum administrator Daniel Ahmad said that the site’s staff “found enough reason to allow it” to be posted.

According to the leak, Devil May Cry 5 will pick up after Devil May Cry 4, suggesting that its developers will be straying from the style of Ninja Theory’s DmC: Devil May Cry with a move back to more familiar territory. Hideaki Itsuno, who directed all the Devil May Cry games aside from the first and DmC, will reprise his role for Devil May Cry 5, while Rueben Langdon will return as Dante. The game will also feature the longest cutscene runtime in the series’ history, suggesting that there will be more of a focus upon its story this time around.

There will potentially be three playable characters including Dante, with Nero being touted by the leaker as one of them. Devil May Cry 5 will also show “a new side” to Dante, with him being “the most serious” he has been. “Dante still plays with his enemies and has his usual over the top flair but this game is going to be more personal for him,” the leaker added.

In terms of gameplay, Devil May Cry 5 will introduce a new dynamic camera system, an improved style system that will see enemies react differently depending upon which style you’re using, and dynamic environment destruction. While it won’t be an open world game, Itsuno’s team are making its levels more expansive, similar to Dragon’s Dogma. Bosses are also a major focus, with one of the boss fights moving between multiple areas of the game. 60 fps is targeted for the console version of the game.

The game has reportedly been in development for 2 years, with a debut trailer ready to roll out. While it was initially going to be shown at the PlayStation Experience in December, after the negative feedback Sony received from their E3 2017 showcase, they have reportedly decided to instead debut it at E3 2018. Sony is also partially funding the game, with it set to have some form of PS4 exclusivity as a result. The leaker adds that the game “could be completely PS4 exclusive, console exclusive or timed exclusive.”

While the leak hasn’t been confirmed, there have been multiple rumors swirling around suggesting that Devil May Cry 5 is on its way, and this is certainly a detailed and believable report. While DmC certainly had its admirers, longtime fans of the series will be pleased to hear that old Dante is making his return, so if this leak is true then we’re looking forward to seeing more of the game in 2018.
