Psychonauts 2 Delayed Until 2019 at the Earliest

Psychonauts 2 has been delayed into 2019 at the earliest, with developers Double Fine wanting to let the platforming sequel cook in the oven a little while longer before releasing it into the wild.

The highly anticipated successor to the 2005 cult classic will release later than expected, with Double Fine stating that “five full level teams” are now working on the project. This extra development has caused the game’s release to move beyond its projected 2018 release window, with a 2019 window not even being confirmed by the studio.

“We do know about how long it’s going to take but we don’t want to say anything until we have a firm date for people,” project lead Zak McClendon said. “We want to give it time to make it something that we love and that the fans love and continues the legacy of Psychonauts 1 in a real meaningful and special way.”

The announcement was made to backers of the game’s successful Kickstarter campaign, which raised Double Fine over $3.8 million to bring the project to life. However, like most crowdfunded games, it seems that Psychonauts 2‘s initial release window was too ambitious.

There isn’t anything in the way of new gameplay footage featured in the video, though it does include some brand new character designs taken from the upcoming game. Take a look below:
