Single-player only games are quickly becoming a thing of the past.
Ted Price, CEO of Insomniac, shared with IGN that he doesn't plan to return to experiences that only offer a single-player component. He stated:
I can't imagine that any game we'd do from here on out will be single-player-only.
The gaming industry has quickly gravitated toward multiplayer experiences, online in particular, in recent years. Campaign-centric games like Uncharted and Metal Gear have had to expand their offerings in order to stay competitive, and Insomniac's lineup is no different.
For those who don't care for playing with other gamers this news is disappointing. Seeing a developer spend 100% of its resources in the single-player mode is becoming extremely rare. How this will affect Insomniac's upcoming games is yet to be determined, but if it turns out like Uncharted 2 and Mass Effect 3 then maybe it's not such a big deal.
