The Far Cry 5 rating, and which audiences the game is suitable for, may come as a surprise to some of you reading this. As we now have both the ESRB and PEGI ratings, we can answer the question: “What is the Far Cry 5 age rating?”
Far Cry 5 Rating: Far Cry 5 ESRB Rating (US Rating)
For those in the US, you’ll be seeing the Far Cry 5 ESRB rating on the game’s box. Far Cry 5 is rated Mature 17+, due to the blood and gore, intense violence, sexual themes, strong language, and use of drugs and alcohol.
The Far Cry 5 ESRB rating goes into further detail about the gameplay on offer, saying that players can use “machine guns, bows, flamethrowers, and explosives to kill enemies in frenetic combat.” As with previous games in the franchise, players will also be able to make use of stealth attacks, which involve strangling, stabbing, and snapping enemies’ necks.
Far Cry 5 Rating: Far Cry 5 PEGI Rating (EU Rating)
Though not yet listed on the official site, EU retailers are showing Far Cry 5 as rated 18 by PEGI. As is usually the case, the PEGI rating mirrors that of the ESRB, and it’s likely similar factors (the extreme violence, sexual themes, etc.) contributed to the extreme rating.
For Far Cry fans, the Mature 17+ and 18 ratings are expected and probably celebrated.
It should be noted that online interactions aren’t included in these ratings. While the world of online gaming can be a magical place, it can also be incredibly toxic and potentially damaging. Additional precautions may need to be taken for online interactions.
