Through an update on EA Sports' official website, Executive Vice President Andrew Wilson has revealed that NBA LIVE 13 has been cancelled after much discussion. Despite having a new team, "the best new technology", and renewed engagement with the community, he believes that the developer was "just not there yet" on NBA LIVE 13.
This isn't too surprising given the fact that we didn't see gameplay of NBA LIVE 13 at neither the EA Redwood Shores event last month nor E3 2012. If any of us would have heard about it, GR's own sports expert Devin Charles would have. So instead of meeting the intended release date of October, they have decided to move their progress to the next installment or the supposed NBA LIVE 14.
It's true that competing against the NBA 2K series is a tall order and one that EA Sports has yet to compete in despite its dominance in nearly every other sports franchise. So transitioning their work to next year's installment is likely the best move for them instead of sending out a half-assed work in progress.
Of course if you read the comments section on the update, there's some hardcore rage going on. Lots of asterisks and dollar signs. After three years of not having any NBA Live titles, this is only to be expected.
