PUBG Will Finally Allow Map Selection for Players

After all this time, PUBG will add map selection in an upcoming update. Players will finally be able to select the maps they want to play in before a match. The community has been requesting this feature for a while now and it’s good to know that the PUBG Corporation is listening to feedback.

The news was revealed via a Steam Community page update earlier today, where the developer also revealed the problems during development that came with introducing the map selection feature in the game. PUBG reassures players that the map selection feature will not cause an increase in matchmaking times for various servers and modes, although it was certainly the “most troubling issue” that the developer had to face.

The developer also said that in order to make map selection work for players from different regions with a variety of preferences and playstyles, they gathered feedback from around the world and analyzed “tens of millions of matches.” The purpose of all this was to ensure that they “could create a solution that worked for every region’s players, even the ones with a naturally low server population.”

Here’s a basic explanation of how the map selection works, according to the developer:

  • You can select the maps you want to play with a click.
  • If you don’t want to play a map, simply unselect it.
  • If you’ve selected more than one map, the game will randomly pick one for you each time you start a match.

The map selection feature is still in development but it is “almost complete” and it will be released to the public after implementation on the test server. The PUBG Corporation has also released a first look at the first work-in-progress version of the UI for the map selection feature.
