Xbox Music Launching Tomorrow With 30 Million Songs

Starting tomorrow, Xbox 360 gamers will be able to enjoy all that Xbox Music has to offer… for a fee. While both free and subscription options are coming to Windows 8, those who wish to stream music on their gaming hardware (30 million songs worth at launch) will have to cough up some cash on the order of $9.99 a month. Oh yeah, and you must be an Xbox Live Gold subscriber.

In addition to the cloud-based streaming service, you'll also be able to purchase individual songs or albums—so at least there's that. Microsoft's Don Mattrick had the following to say about their new service:

The launch of Xbox Music is a milestone in simplifying digital music on every type of device and on a global scale. We’re breaking down the walls that fracture your music experiences today to ensure that music is better and integrated across the screens that you care about most — your tablet, PC, phone and TV.

It's clear that Microsoft is aiming to create the definitive music/entertainment hub with the Xbox platform, but will they succeed? After all, toppling Apple will prove quite challenging. Let us know whether or not you think Microsoft stands a chance in the comments below.
