The Vampyr launch trailer, the latest game from Life Is Strange developers Dontnod Entertainment, has been officially released. The new action RPG is scheduled for release next week on June 5, 2018, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The launch trailer gives us a glimpse of the world of Vampyr, set in a fictional post-Great War London, and the challenges the game’s protagonist, doctor-turned-vampire Dr. Jonathan Reid, who has to decide who to save or kill in a war-torn London, which will ultimately affect how the narrative plays out.
“A man of logic and science, Reid’s firm beliefs are turned inside-out upon awakening to a once-hidden world of secret societies, ungodly creatures and ancient orders set upon ending his existence. All the while, London’s population crumbles under the pressure of a terrible disease – and Dr. Reid may be the city’s last hope to stop it.”
Players will have to survive and fight through the game’s four districts, each with its own interconnected populace, and must choose which citizens to kill or save from disease. Killing and feeding on a citizen will help enhance Reid’s abilities as a vampire while saving them will help keep the balance in the district and prevent supernatural creatures from taking over.
Each decision will have its own set of effects and consequences in the game’s narrative and mechanics. For example, having a district get overrun by supernatural creatures will mean losing every quest, shop, and citizen in that district. Although, even if all four districts are lost, players will still be able to play the game to completion but will get an ending appropriate to the situation.
Vampyr is being developed by Dontnod Entertainment, published by Focus Home Interactive, and is set for release on June 5, 2018, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
