command and conquer rivals

E3 2018: Command and Conquer Rivals Promises a Full RTS Experience on Mobile

Command and Conquer Rivals, the latest in the RTS series, has been showcased at E3 2018’s EA Play event. Shaping itself up to be a serious rival to the likes of Clash of Clans and such, it may alienate long-time fans, but bring in far more casual players than those who originally dipped their toes back into the Brotherhood of Nod waters way back in the 1990s.

Tim Curry aside, the E3 2018 presentation couldn’t have been much more bizarre, with two gamers unveiling the title in an awkward session; the mobile game clearly isn’t designed for a worldwide audience but it does look compelling in small chunks.

Hitting both Android and iOS later this year, Command and Conquer Rivals sees players choosing to play as either the iconic Brotherhood of Nod, or the Global Defensive Initiative.

From there, you can increase the size and strength of your armies and lead them off to battle against the best of the best around the world in 1 v 1 PvP. Your inner 12-year-old is probably screaming at the thought of toppling opponents across the planet in true C&C style. Just a pity there’s no option to direct and send our your own Tim Curry-style gloating video pre and post-match. That would have been brilliant.

This marks the series’ first game since 2012’s Tiberium Alliances and you’d hope it gets off to a good start because if there’s one thing the world needs, it’s Command and Conquer rocking up and showing everybody how it’s done just like the good old days.

You can watch the extensive gameplay trailer below, which features a look at the bite-sized gameplay you can come to expect from Command and Conquer Rivals. Sure, it’s not the full-fat version of the game we’ve come to know and love but, for a bit of RTS on-the-go, you can’t get much better than this.
