Jurassic World Evolution allows players to create their very own dinosaur theme park, complete with all of the cataclysmic problems that such a task presents. While playing with these dinos is a lot of fun, as outlined in our review of the game, there’s a lot of work that needs to be done if you want to create a flourishing park. Jurassic World Evolution Guide: Don’t Pay Attention to the Dino Descriptions
Though the descriptions for each dinosaur are fun to read, don’t base the development of your enclosures on them as it can lead to disaster. For instance, the description for the T-rex notes that it can “happily” live with other dinosaurs, though I find this to not be the case whatsoever as it chomped down on every single herbivore and carnivore that I set loose in its pen. Focus on the meters in the dinosaur statistics menu, and pay no mind to the other information provided by the game.
Jurassic World Evolution Guide: You Have to Unlock Sandbox Mode
Jurassic World Evolution boasts a sandbox mode, though the game doesn’t really illustrate this particularly well. Rather than being able to hop into it from the menu, you instead have to head on over to the first island and unlock its 4-star rating. You can find out how to do so in our guide right here, with it allowing you to unlock Isla Nublar, the setting for the first Jurassic Park film. There you’ll be given unlimited money to do as you please, alongside everything you’ve unlocked throughout your career.
Jurassic World Evolution Guide: Build Your Monorail First
There’s no option to move around buildings after you’ve constructed them, meaning that you’ll have to demolish them and take a loss. When you unlock your monorail, you’ll want to have it spread around across your park to improve your guests’ transportation rating, which improves your overall facility score. However, it can be costly to do this if you’re having to bulldoze buildings in order to make way for your monorail.
A good strategy, then, is to build your monorail track first. You don’t need to create multiple monorail stations, with these able to be built onto the track afterward, but you can get it set up before you start developing your buildings and enclosures to ensure you have exactly the right amount of space that you need. Trust me, when you eventually start trying to lay down monorail tracks only to be told that they’re being obstructed by your surrounding buildings, you’ll wish that you’d have invested in the monorail first.
Jurassic World Evolution Guide: Keep Your Research and Expedition Centers Busy
The Expedition Center is where you’re going to get all your fossils, which allow you to create new dinosaurs. Unlocking these new dinosaurs is inevitably the most fun part of Jurassic World Evolution, though if you don’t keep on top of your expeditions, it can be a slow process. As such, you’re going to want to keep on top of your Expedition Center, and always ensure that it’s flying away somewhere to retrieve fossils.
Similarly, you’re going to want to keep the Research Center active, too. The Research Center helps you unlock less useful abilities such as improving the ACU unit’s aim with its tranquilizer gun, but it will also eventually increase the number of digs the Expedition Center can embark upon, and the number of fossils that can be transformed into genomes in order to create your dinosaurs. Make sure both centers are working overtime and you’ll progress through the game at a much faster pace.
Jurassic World Evolution Guide: Each Dinosaur’s Location Matters
When a dinosaur’s comfort level drops into the red zone, they’ll try to escape out of their enclosure. While it’s not all too difficult to keep them sweet by way of changing their surrounding landscape and ensuring they aren’t stuck in a cramped pen, there are some finer details that you may miss while working towards keeping your dinosaurs happy.
The most easily overlooked facet of this system is that even though a dinosaur may be comfortable in one particular area of their enclosure, if they wander over to another part that isn’t to their tastes, this can still set them off. This means that if you set up an enclosure with the perfect mix of grassland and forest, but your T-rex wanders too close to the forest, their comfort levels can decline. If you’ve placed their feeder or water source in this area, then they may spend long enough in the red that they try to break free, even though you thought that they were getting along just fine.
This tip isn’t really necessary for the low-end dinosaurs that are easily pleased, but when you start getting to the more expensive dinos, you’ll find that they’re far more difficult to keep comfortable and you need to ensure that every inch of their enclosure is suited to their specific needs.
