Fortnite is a pretty popular game. So much so, in fact, that during the Fortnite Pro-Am tournament at E3, adult website YouPorn reported a sudden drop in traffic that immediately returned to normal once the tournament had concluded. I can’t imagine why.
YouPorn gathered data using anonymized affinity statistics from Google Analytics and found that during the Fortnite Pro-Am tournament on June 12, their traffic dropped by 13.57%. As soon as the tournament concluded this traffic returned to usual numbers, which led to the conclusion that Fortnite fans had forgone fapping in order to feast their eyes on the festivities. Supplementary evidence to support this is the fact that Google’s affinity statistics allow you to track the general interests of anonymous users – which found that much of the dropped traffic came from people who play video games.
The fun doesn’t end there, though. YouPorn also shared statistics on the increase in searches for specific things on the site during the tournament. Namely, both the eSports players and the celebrities paired up with them as part of the tournament. American rapper Desiigner had an explosive 721% in searches, followed by singer, dancer, and actress Jordyn Jones by 437%. The results then move on to actual video game players, with Markiplier at a 128% search increase, followed by Pokimane at 70% and Sssniperwolf at 28%.
Ninja, a popular Twitch streamer who won the tournament, only had a search rate increase of 20% on YouPorn. This juxtaposes the fact that over the two days he took off streaming to prepare for the tournament, he reportedly lost 40,000 Twitch subscribers. Fortunately for him it’ll all be worth it, with the combined $3 million charity prize pool, golden pickaxe trophy, and the offering from YouPorn of a free branded t-shirt as well as some complimentary stickers. I don’t know about him, but that’d certainly soften the blow for me.
