Ori and the Blind Forest was one of the most popular games of 2015, winning several awards since its launch and getting a “Definitive Edition” release on PC and Xbox One in 2016. Now, modder Cruze Bear, who previously created a Call of Duty: Black Ops co-op mod, has teased a new local co-op mod for Ori and the Blind Forest in a video on his YouTube channel.
The video features a silent play session which shows the first player opening a dev menu to spawn a second Ori, controlled by another player. The two players are colored differently for easy identification. A function that allows one Ori to teleport to the position of the other is also shown along with some typical development features such as God Mode and the ability to spawn items such as keystones and Spirit Flames.
Given that this is simply a gameplay teaser, it isn’t clear or confirmed how the mod will actually work and how it will affect several aspects of gameplay, such as how experience and souls will be collected. The final mode could change many of the game’s aspects to accommodate two players.
The video description states that the mod is still very much a work in progress and will probably not see a release for quite some time but it’s great to know that we might someday be able to play Ori and the Blind Forest with a friend. Hopefully Cruze Bear is able to complete the mod without much issue.
The Definitive Edition of Ori and Blind Forest is currently available on PC and Xbox One. A sequel, called Ori and the Will of the Wisps, was announced in 2017 at E3 and is scheduled for release sometime in 2019 for PC and Xbox One. You can check out the gameplay teaser for the mod below:
