Yep, you read that right, a GTA 6 release date has already been teased. GTA 5 was originally released in 2013. That’s over half a decade ago, and it was technically a previous generation game as it was originally released on the PS3 and Xbox 360, before being re-released on the PS4 and Xbox One the following year. Nevertheless, gamers have been eagerly clamoring for a new installment. An unexpected message has suddenly appeared in GTA Online over the past several days, and it simply says “GTA VI Coming 2019.” Could Grand Theft Auto 6 really be launching so soon?
As reported by GamesRadar earlier today, the message in question has surprised many GTA Online players, who have since gone to the GTA Online forums to find out if there’s any truth to it. Rockstar Games has been directing most of its recent efforts towards the highly-anticipated release of Red Dead Redemption 2 in October. There are several reasons why this GTA 6 “leaked” announcement could very well be someone’s idea of a joke.
GTA 6 Release Date: Why It’s Probably Not True
Firstly, Rockstar Games and publisher Take-Two Interactive wouldn’t want to divert precious attention away from Red Dead Redemption 2, which is only three months away. It would be more logical for them to announce the game after RDR2 has launched. That’s not all, as the GTA 6 message has apparently only been appearing on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of GTA Online. Those are the only platforms on which modding is available, which means that there’s a high possibility of this being the work of a hacker.
GTA Online is still going strong, with constant updates like the upcoming nightclubs update coming later this month. Five years after its initial release, GTA 5 still manages to rock the charts from time to time, having shipped a whopping 95 million copies as of May 2018. With the massive hype surrounding Red Dead Redemption 2, it would be probably a good idea for Rockstar Games to delay the eventual reveal of GTA 6, even if it could be releasing in 2019.
