Star Citizen Breaks Crowdsourcing Record With $6M Funded

Star Citizen, a proposed space epic PC game from Chris Roberts, has broken crowdsourcing funding records by closing fundraising on the project at $6,224,123. The only other game that has come close to this record was Obsidian's RPG Project Eternity, which raised over $4 million.

The fundraising started on Chris Roberts' Robert's Space Industries website, but it expanded to a Kickstarter campaign, which in the end, helped push it past their $6 million goal. The project raised $4,091,456 on the project website, and then Kickstarter added another $2,1322,667.

As a result from surpassing the $6 million goal, Star Citizen will include the availability of a Bengal carrier ship for online play, 100 star systems will definitely be available at launch, the soundtrack will include a full orchestra, and all backers will receive a copy of the first Squadron 42 mission disc—Behind Enemy Lines.

Congratulations to both Chris Roberts and all of the backers of this project. Sounds like everyone involved is going to win once Star Citizen releases.
