Diablo IV

Diablo III Eternal Collection Confirmed For Nintendo Switch

After what seems like an eternity of teasing, Activision Blizzard has announced that Diablo III is truly, definitely coming to Nintendo Switch later this year. The new Diablo III: Eternal Collection will comprise the main game, the Reaper of Souls expansion, all DLC content including the Rise of the Necromancer pack, all patch updates, and additional goodies which will be exclusive to the Switch version of the game. It presumably will not include the much-maligned Auction House, which was shut down on PC in 2014.

Switch exclusives include a set of armor your character can wear to make them look like Ganondorf, Link’s arch-enemy from Nintendo’s own The Legend of Zelda series, with a design reminiscent of his appearance in the N64 classic Ocarina of TimeDiablo III: Eternal Collection also allows four-player co-op multiplayer through Nintendo Switch Online, wirelessly, or on one single Nintendo Switch. While the developer says the larger Joy-Con controller is supported, Blizzard make no mention of whether two people can use the smaller Joy-Cons to play.

The existence of Diablo III: Eternal Collection was leaked yesterday by Forbes magazine. The now-pulled article also mentions a Tri-Force portrait frame, Chicken pet, and Echoes of the Mask cosmetic wings alongside the Legend of Ganondorf armor set. These aren’t specified in the press release, although it does say there will be addition platform-exclusive bonus items.

The game was released on PC way back in 2012, and ported to PS4 and Xbox One as the very well-received Diablo III: Ultimate Edition in 2014. It isn’t the first time Diablo III on Switch has been leaked either, as Blizzard teased it back in March, and then seemingly confirmed it too. Just last week Community Manager Brandy Camel confirmed there were “multiple Diablo projects in the works,” which presumably included this Switch version. Could Diablo 4 be one of the other projects Blizzard have cooking? We wouldn’t be surprised.
