With its recent release on Xbox One, PS4, and PC, people are asking if there’s a Shadow of the Tomb Raider Nintendo Switch release date. The Tomb Raider IP has moved around to a variety of platforms over the course of its existence and it has been on Nintendo platforms before. Could it come to Nintendo Switch next?
Shadow of the Tomb Raider Nintendo Switch Release Date
There isn’t a release date for Shadow of the Tomb Raider on the Nintendo Switch and it is extremely unlikely that we’ll ever see a port of the game. In fact Eidos Montreal lead game designer Heath Smith told GameSpot that the studio had “no plans” for a Switch version of the game. Rather, they’re choosing to focus on the platforms the game is already set to release for: Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
While this doesn’t bode well for those hoping to one day play this game on the go, the team didn’t completely shut the door with their aforementioned comment. However, this is likely because making sweeping, definitive declarations can only come back to hurt developers. Odds are unlikely but, technically, there’s always a slim chance that the future could bring Lara to the platform.
We’ve seen other technologically demanding games make their way to Nintendo Switch but the visuals/performance often takes a hit. So although fans are asking for studios to bring everything to Switch, some games really struggle on the platform: from the frame rate issues in Dead Cells to the recently removed video capture in Fortnite. The platform isn’t for everything, even if fans want it to be.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is out now for those who have preordered the game. For everyone else, the release date is September 14, 2018: allowing fans to finally experience the last chapter in this game’s current trilogy.
