Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr.’s Journey will be coming to the Nintendo 3DS. Bowser Jr.’s Journey is a new side story that will release with Bowser’s Inside Story next year.
The remake is getting revamped graphics and some refined gameplay bits, but will otherwise be a faithful remaster of the humorous RPG. Bowser’s Inside Story is known for its quirky dialogue, inane concept, and sheer commitment to that concept. Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr.’s Journey will be releasing on January 11, 2019. The game is priced at $39.99 according to the Nintendo store.
Bowser Jr.’s Journey runs alongside the story of the original game, and follows Bowser Jr. as he sets off to find a way to rid Mushroom Kingdom of “The Blorbs.” The game features a strategic battle system with Bowser Jr. commanding a small army of characters. The trailer shows off a rather deep party management system, with stats and bonuses for characters. There is also a “formation” system that gives certain character layouts bonuses. One such shown is the “Magnet” formation that grants a 5% boost to accuracy.
Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story was originally released in 2009 on the Nintendo DS. The game follows intrepid brothers Mario and Luigi as they are shrunk down and then inhaled by Bowser. The game is built around the unique dual-screen layout of the DS and 3DS systems, with Bowser on the top screen while the brothers’ foray into Bowser’s insides on the bottom screen. The turn-based title is the best selling Mario RPG, having sold over four million copies on the DS.
We enjoyed Bowser’s Inside Story back when it released in 2009. The humor, story, and presentation were top-notch at the time. Getting all of that with a slick coat of paint and a new side story will be all the better.
