Call of Duty Black Ops 4 is due to release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 12, 2018. The hotly-anticipated shooter sequel brings Battle Royale gameplay directly into the Call of Duty Black Ops universe. Blackout pits up to 100 players against each other in a survival situation. It’s big, new and exciting. Nintendo Switch owners are within their rights to want Black Ops 4 on the hybrid machine. Is Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Switch coming out? Will we ever see Black Ops 4 on Switch? All is revealed below.
Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Switch: Is it Coming to Nintendo Switch?
Sadly, Treyarch has confirmed that Black Ops 4 Switch is not in development. This was originally announced back in May earlier this year. During a roundtable interview, Twinfinite asked Yale Miller (senior producer at Treyarch) and Matt Scronce (Treyarch gameplay designer) “are there any plans to bring any aspect of Black Ops 4 to Nintendo Switch?” The answer was a simple “no there is not.” No kind of explanation was given. One can only assume it has to do with the Switch’s relative lack of power when compared to the Xbox One and PS4.
More recently, David Vonderhaar (design director at Treyarch) was asked by Game Informer about the chances of a potential Switch port. He simply laughed it off, explaining that he “just makes the shoes.”
Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Switch: Will it Ever Come to Nintendo Switch?
While it looks extremely unlikely for any kind of Black Ops 4 Switch port any time soon, never say never. You will have likely noticed that neither answers to the Switch question above gave any concrete details as to why there is no version of the game on Nintendo’s hybrid machine. This could mean simply that it was an executive decision not to port the game onto Switch right now. The likes of DOOM, Wolfenstein 2, and DOOM Eternal show that, with some downgrades, modern, richly detailed shooters can thrive on the Switch. Treyarch supported the Wii with Call of Duty titles, too, which suffered from a lack of power compared to the Xbox 360 and PS3.
