Fortnite’s Most Successful Month Ever Was August 2018

Epic Games has revealed that August was the most successful month it has ever had with Fortnite. This news comes off the tail of the latest season of the game coming to a close, and an intriguing mystery surrounding a purple cube traveling around the map of the battle royale game.

In a post announcing further details for the Fall Skirmish, Epic Games announced that in August, 78.3 million fans played Fortnite. The company added that they needed to harden and scale up the infrastructure for the game due to its massive playerbase.

It added in the post what the millions of players helped do. All of these people “exposed weak points” which let the developer “make targeted improvements to critical systems, such as stats and servers.” The Summer Skirmish showed problems concerning spectating and performance and Epic stated that it is has “been working on ever since.”

The new Fall Skirmish will be going for six weeks ending at TwitchCon which is running from October 26 to 28. This is a full two weeks shorter than the game’s previous esports event, Summer Skirmish. With this new tournament, the top prize will be $10,000,000. Epic Games added that each week of the Fall Skirmish will have various new formats such as “white-knuckle ATK races, masterful golf outings, mini-games, and of course high skill competition every weekend.”

Epic has invited 500 different community members to five distinct clubs to vie for the grand cash prize. The first week of competition begins today where members of the five clubs will “assemble into Squads to play matches on the default Squad playlist.” The trials and formats for the rest of the competition will be revealed in the coming weeks of the event.

Fortnite will end its current season, and its mystery surrounding Kevin the purple cube, very soon with season six beginning on September 27.
