Monster Hunter World Tops August PC Sales

Monster Hunter World appears to have hit another home run. It was announced in July that it was the best-selling game in Japan for the year at the time and that it looks like the Windows crowd have been suitably enamored by the title. MH World PC sales show that the dino-hunting extravaganza has defeated the likes of PUBG in the premium (not free-to-play) arena. Hot on the heels of its latest Final Fantasy XIV-themed event, MH World definitely isn’t showing any signs of stopping.

While free-to-play titles such as Fortnite did incredibly well on the console front, Monster Hunter World was the undisputed king of the jungle when it came to PC sales. In that month alone, the game sold 2 million copies according to Forbes, which is definitely an impressive showing. Its popular rival PUBG was no match for this sort of firepower straight out of the gate, and other contenders for the top 10 best-selling PC titles of the month were all free to play with optional transactions.

World of Warcraft and League of Legends did predictably well in the same month, with the former’s success most likely attributable to the release of Battle for Azeroth, which heralded the return of a record number of players to the MMORPG. League of Legends didn’t too shabbily, but compared to last year’s statistics, it’s seen a noticeable dip in popularity compared to the other titles sharing the PC best-selling list.

All in all, it looks like Monster Hunter World is continuing to outperform Capcom’s expectations. With new events constantly being released, along with special gear and crossover content being churned out across platforms, there’s no shortage of things to enjoy in the game and it appears that its spot at the top is well-deserved right now. Whether the title will maintain its top spot when anticipated releases like Red Dead Redemption 2 come out is uncertain, but only time will tell.
