Assassin’s Creed Odyssey – What Does Hero Strike Do?

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is out this week, and there are many excellent abilities for you to unlock that give a range of advantages, whether in combat or focusing on stealth. However, one particular ability is something of a mystery: the Assassin ability called the “Hero Strike.” It’s in-game description doesn’t make it sound useful at all, so why would you get the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Hero Strike ability? We’ll show you why it’s more useful than it seems.

What Does Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Hero Strike Do?

The in-game description of the Hero Strike ability is that it’s a “single strike attack” and it “inflicts 60% Assassin damage.” What use is that? The video tutorial alongside the ability shows Kassandra/Alexios sneaking up on an enemy soldier and killing them with an assassination move, but you can do that already by default. Plus, the default offers 100% Assassin damage, which can be increased to 200% with the “Critical Assassination” ability.

So what use is Hero Strike? Simple: it can be used during combat, after you’ve been detected. The video is extremely misleading. Assassin damage is significantly more powerful than baseline Warrior or Hunter damage, so even a 60% power strike during combat on an enemy is extremely damaging. Furthermore, it incapacitates the enemy by knocking them to the ground, leaving you plenty of time for some follow-up shots. All in all, it’s an extremely useful ability to have.

How Best to Use the Hero Strike Ability

Once you’ve unlocked the Hero Strike ability, firstly you’ll want to upgrade it as soon as possible. Beyond that, you’ll want to upgrade your Assassin damage levels, either by getting a good loadout or leveling up your character as much as you can. Hero Strike can one-shot many less-powerful opponents, and if you get your Assassin power levels up high enough will either kill or do massive damage to even higher-level enemies. It’s also good for taking out single enemies who have already spotted you, nice and quietly, so you can slip back into stealth.
