Fallout 76 Flashlight – Where is the Flashlight?

Fallout 76 is out now, and players from all around the world are emerging from the dark of Vault 76 to find that the world of the West Virginia wasteland is still pretty dark too. You can see well enough in the day, but what about night? Most of the game’s interior locations are pretty dark too, so a Fallout 76 flashlight would be very helpful. However, is there one? The game certainly doesn’t mention one, so how do you get it? Then when you’ve got it, how do you use it? We’ve got the answers.

Where is the Fallout 76 Flashlight?

One of the annoying things about Fallout 76, if you’re a newcomer to the series, is that many features are left unexplained because you’re expected to know how to use them already. Hacking for example, or the lockpicking minigame, are the same in Fallout 3, New Vegas or Fallout 4, but that doesn’t help a new player to Fallout 76. The Fallout 76 flashlight is much the same.

There is no flashlight item in Fallout 76, but there absolutely is one in the game. Just like previous games, the flashlight is actually built into your Pip-Boy, so you have it on you at all times and it doesn’t take up inventory space. That’s good news, but how do you turn it on?

How to Use the Fallout 76 Flashlight

The Pip-Boy flashlight in Fallout 76 can be activated by holding the Pip-Boy button for about a second. This button is Circle on the PS4 controller, B on the Xbox One gamepad, and Tab by default on PC. Once it’s activated your character will project a green light all around them. Sadly there is no long-range flashlight in the game; the Pip-Boy light only affects your immediate surroundings. Be careful though, since if you’re attempting to sneak around, the flashlight will give you away immediately. The Scorched aren’t stupid, you know.
