Sony's financials for the third quarter of its fiscal year are in, and loses are down significantly when compared to last year. The company suffered a ¥10.8 billion loss, which is a marked improvement, especially when stacking that up against the Q3 loss of ¥159 billion that was posted this time last year.
Sadly, the PlayStation division didn't do particularly well, with a total income of just ¥4.6 billion, versus last year's ¥33.8 billion. Naturally, the Vita's poor performace is a main contributing factor, with the company's handheld market projections for the fiscal year now slashed from 10 million to 7 million.
On the console side of things, Sony is sticking with its 16 million projection for PS3 and PS2 sales over the fiscal year. Third quarter sales between the two devices amounted to 6.8 million, which is apparently around what they were expecting. As far as games go, PSP and Vita software amounted to only 8.9 million, while Sony posted 61.7 million in sales for titles on the PS3 and PS2.
