Judgment, the next game from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios, the team behind the beloved Yakuza series, finally got its title and a Western release window. It will come out in the West in summer 2019 on PS4. The title was announced earlier this year as Judge Eyes or Project Judge for the West.
Sega revealed a trailer dubbed in English at the Kinda Funny Games Showcase, Kinda Funny’s convention that is happening in the absence of PSX. It showed off the new Western title, release window, premise for the story, and a few words from Greg Chun, the English voice actor for the protagonist Takayuki Yagami. He briefly spoke about his involvement in the game.
“I’m super psyched to be part of this game,” he said. “Yagami is a super fascinating character and I can’t wait for you to meet him. And I am so honored to be part of this superstar voice cast. It’s truly humbling.”
That superstar voice cast has some notable names such Yuri Lowenthal (Spider-Man in the most recent game), Matthew Mercer (Overwatch‘s McCree), SungWon Cho (Twitter comedian and voice actor), Fred Tatasciore (Bane from the first two Batman Arkham games), and many more.
The “courtroom thriller” follows lawyer turned detective Yagami as he attempts to solve a set of murder cases. After a key figure is found innocent, Yagami sets out to uncover the truth within the corrupt underbelly of Kamurocho.
While it may look like it could fit right into the coveted Yakuza series, given that it is from the same team, it will not be part of the same universe. Despite some hints pointing to one Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios world, Judgment will not have characters from the Yakuza games because “it could draw people out of this new experience.”
