Smash Ultimate Jigglypuff is very different to the Jigglypuff you know from mainline Pokemon games. The ostensibly adorable and harmless Pokemon is a force to be reckoned with in Smash, and if you’re not careful it might just make a mockery of you. However, there are ways you can beat Jigglypuff easily, and also ways you can use Jigglypuff to your advantage once you unlock it. Here’s how to beat and unlock Jigglypuff in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate so you can beat up all your friends using the cute pink fluffball.
Smash Ultimate Jigglypuff – How to Beat It
Beating the Smash Ultimate Jigglypuff might seem tough at first—mostly due to the fact that most people go in guns blazing expecting an easy fight. However, once you know what you’re doing it’s actually pretty easy to beat Jigglypuff. After all, it’s no Wigglytuff.
Jigglypuff’s most powerful assets are its down special and its ability to jump several times in a row. Knocking it off the map is like knocking Kirby off a map—it’s just going to float on back up. As a result, you’ll need to knock Jigglypuff out in order to win. This is tough if you’re a close-combat fighter, as Jigglypuff will just spam Sing and Doubleslap you into oblivion. However, there are definitely ways to get around this.
The most effective thing to do is to manage your Spirits correctly. If you’re fighting Jigglypuff in Adventure Mode, you’ll be able to use Primary and Support Spirits in every fight. There are several Spirits that reduce the effects of Slumber moves and floors, and even some that negate their effects entirely, Usually, one of the Spirits surrounding a Fighter unlock will offer players the opportunity to unlock a Support Spirit designed to help them in the Fighter fight, so there are some Slumber Immunity Spirits available for unlocking near Jigglypuff.
If for some reason you haven’t yet got a Slumber Immunity Spirit, you can still take down Jigglypuff pretty easily. Stay airborne so that you don’t get caught by Sing and you’ll be fine.
If you have a ranged character unlocked, definitely use them and try to keep your distance, as Jigglypuff is pretty pathetic at range. However, if you’ve still only got Kirby and possibly Mario and Sheik, Kirby can beat Jigglypuff pretty easily.
All you need to do is keep using your aerial down specials, which means jumping high in the air and pressing B and down on the left analog stick at the same time. This will cause Kirby to change form into something that weighs a ton and come crashing down on an unsuspecting Jigglypuff. Press up on the left analog stick and B simultaneously immediately after you land to take to the air again. Rinse and repeat this and you’ll never fall asleep. Eventually, Jigglypuff will be catapulted off the map as if it was sitting on a seesaw right before an elephant was dropped on the other side. Game!
Smash Ultimate Jigglypuff – How to Unlock It
In case you didn’t know, Smash Ultimate Jigglypuff is one of the first Fighters you’ll come across if you go north at the four-way intersection that Kirby comes across early on in the World of Light mode, after only four Spirit battles
Going north pits you against Sheik, who can easily be beaten with Kirby. After you get to a small village of sorts, you’ll be able to go north into a forested area containing a broken bridge. There’s a Spirit battle directly north of the broken bridge. Win this, and you’ll get the Spirit you need to repair bridges. Fix the bridge, cross it, take on the two Spirits in front of the fighter, and you’ll have your chance to take on Jigglypuff.
Unlocking Jigglypuff this early isn’t the easiest thing in the world and if you lose you definitely won’t be the first to have done so. A lot of people lose to Jigglypuff on their first, second, and even third tries. However, if you stick to the above section on how to beat Jigglypuff, you should be able to unlock Jigglypuff without too much hassle.
Once you’ve unlocked Jigglypuff in World of Light, you’ll be able to play as Jigglypuff instead of Kirby if you choose to do so. Personally, I like playing as Kirby better, but if you get Jigglypuff’s Sing ability down, you can set yourself up for some serious combos. Also, just like Kirby, Jigglypuff’s ability to jump multiple times affords it brilliant recovery, so playing as Jigglypuff is particularly forgiving towards players who struggle to stay on the stage. Remember, though, that Jigglypuff is light and can be launched pretty easily. You’ll need to get your shielding and dodging down if you want to become a Smash Ultimate Jigglypuff main!
Smash Ultimate Jigglypuff – Adventure Mode vs. Challenger Approaching
It’s important to note that unlocking Smash Ultimate Jigglypuff in the “Challenger Approaching” mode doesn’t actually unlock it for use in Adventure Mode. In order to play as Jigglypuff, or any Fighter for that matter, in the World of Light, you’ll need to emphatically unlock them in the World of Light first.
The only way to do this is by finding their encounters which are dispersed across the map at large, so some Fighters can’t be used until very late in the game’s story mode—even after defeating Galeem and Dharkon. Jigglypuff, though, can be encountered early on, allowing it to be a Fighter you can use pretty much from the get-go.
If you happen to go up against Jigglypuff in Challenger Approaching, Link is your friend. As one of the eight characters you automatically have access to in the Standard “Smash” game mode, you’ll be able to play as Link as soon as you boot up the game. Link’s neutral special—pressing just B on its own—fires an arrow in the direction he’s facing.
Pushing the analog to either side while pressing B deploys Link’s iconic boomerang, too, which means that the Hero of Hyrule has two very powerful ranged attacks. Jigglypuff can’t put you to sleep if it can’t get anywhere near you, so alternating between these two moves will quickly stockpile damage onto the pink cutie before it can even say “Jiggly.”
So, beating Jigglypuff in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is actually pretty easy. Use Slumber Immunity Spirits or ranged Fighters—or both, for that matter—and you’ll render this relatively niche Fighter almost entirely useless. Once you beat it, you’ll be able to play as Jigglypuff yourself.
Beating it in Challenger Approaching means you can play as Jigglypuff in Smash mode or Online mode, but defeating and freeing Jigglypuff in the World of Light Adventure Mode unlocks it for use across the board. Jigglypuff is a formidable foe, despite how deceptively cute and cuddly it is. As a result, practicing with it can really add a whole lot to your online capabilities, as not many players know how to handle a skilled Jigglypuff player. There are no Moon Stones in Smash, so you can’t get a Wigglytuff, unfortunately; however, just like the eponymous heroes of the recently released Pokemon Let’s Go Eevee and Pikachu, Jigglypuff proves that it doesn’t need to evolve to be tough.
