Fallout 76 has many weird and wonderful features, but sometimes those features can cost you. Getting a little too much radiation can cause dangerous, destructive, or actually helpful bonuses in the form of Mutations, but most of these come with major side-effects. But is there a way to lessen or even nullify the side-effects of Mutations? What is the Fallout 76 Class Freak Perk, and can it help with Mutations? We’ve got the answers.
What is Fallout 76 Class Freak?
“Class Freak” is a Perk in Fallout 76. Perks are special ability cards you gain when you level up. In earlier Fallout games Perks could have both a negative and a positive attribute. Now Mutations play that function, so it’s fitting that a Perk would be the thing that actually helped lessen the devastating side-effects of these Mutations. The Fallout 76 Class Freak Perk does not prevent the negative side effects of Mutations, but it does reduce them, significantly so depending on what level you have the Perk at.
- Rank 1: The negative effects of your mutations are reduced by 25%.
- Rank 2: The negative effects of your mutations are reduced by 50%.
- Rank 3: The negative effects of your mutations are reduced by 75%.
What Benefits Does Fallout 76 Class Freak Give You?
If you’re planning to make a special custom character, using the various special Mutations to gain bonuses, a Rank 3 Class Freak Perk is absolutely essential. The Marsupial Mutation, for example, improves jumping and increases carry weight, but should reduce the player’s Intelligence SPECIAL stat by -4. Class Freak lowers this hit to a maximum of -1. Likewise, the Speed Demon Mutation increases movement and reloading speed, but drastically increases thirst and hunger.
Class Freak massively lessens this detriment, making Speed Demon (and all these other Mutations) much more worthwhile. While players have reported some bugs when using Class Freak, such as their stats not showing any difference, apparently this is only visual and the benefits of the Perk are indeed active.
