Jack Tretton Says PS4 Software Prices Will Support Free-To-Play To $60

Speaking on CNBC, Sony Computer Entertainment America CEO Jack Tretton said that the PS4 and the next-generation PlayStation Network will not discriminate against games priced outside of the typical structure we've seen on the Xbox 360 and PS3.

"We're going to welcome free-to-play models, games from $0.99 up to those $60 games," Tretton said. During Thursday's Squawk on the Street segment, Tretton said that the PS4 is "designed with the game developer in mind and the consumer in mind."

"I think people are willing to pay if they see the value there. The heat for the true gamer is on the console," Tretton continued. The PS3 currently supports free-to-play business models, and Sony itself even has a hand in promoting those games through PlayStation+. This past week the publisher added a Starter Pack for the Eve Online-connected shooter Dust 514 to its popular subscription service.

With touch controls on the Dualshock 4, will the iOS and Android developers eagerly port their best games to the PS4? More importantly, would you buy those games to play on your PlayStation devices?
