DualShock 4 beta version 1.0.
Shuhei Yoshida has shared with Engadget that the PlayStation 4 controller seen last week isn't the final design, and changes will come in response to feedback. He said:
It's near final. It's just gonna be small tweaks being done,
The design so far has received overwhelmingly positive reception. For one, gamers have been happy to see that Sony has ditched the convex design of the analog sticks, a staple which has remained since the original DualShock. Its larger grips should provide a more balanced platform for long play sessions, and may even improve accuracy in shooters. Arguably the most important change from previous designs is the shape of the L2/R2 triggers. The DualShock 3 was notorious for finger slips during intense firefights and racing games, but the DualShock 4 is looking to remedy that with a shape that locks the index fingers in.
However, that isn't to say that the design is perfect. The Start button probably isn't coming back but there are little adjustments that could prevent you from having to buy aftermarket parts for it later—RealTriggers were practically required for the DualShock 3. I'll leave the list of things that Sony should consider for its next controller to the comments below. Remember that this is something you'll be spending thousands of hours holding for the next few years, so do your hands and your KDR a favor by sharing your feedback below.
