Let’s back up a bit first before we get to that. Treyarch recently announced that it was allowing players to try Black Ops 4‘s battle royale mode – Blackout – for a limited time. The free trial is available from Thursday, January 17 and let’s you play alongside people who already own it.

You can only play Blackout mode, however, so don’t expect to be able to play Zombies or any other game type if you download the trial. Regardless of when you download it too, the free trial ends on the same day for everyone. That date is Thursday, January 24, so your best option is to download the trial today and have a full week to try it out.

Why is there a Black Ops 4 Blackout free trial end date?

Again, let’s take a look at why there’s a free trial in the first place. Black Ops 4 has been out for three months now and, whilst it’s been a huge success, the upcoming release schedule for new games means that player numbers may dwindle in the coming weeks.

There’s a slew of new games coming out in February so, in an effort to lure new players to their game ahead of next month, it’s a no brainer for Treyarch to offer a free trial of one of its most popular game modes.

So why is there a free trial end date if Treyarch want to draw in new players? Well, most trials have end dates. There’s no point just having an open ended trial that people can take advantage of. It may also be a push towards a potential F2P model in future. In the end, Treyarch want more people to buy their game, so only giving them a certain amount of time to try it out is a good business strategy.
