EA chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen has said that all future EA games will incorporate microtransactions in one form or another. As he put it, "the next and much bigger piece [of the business] is microtransactions within games."
Jorgensen attended the Morgan Stanley Technology Media & Telecom Conference, and during a question and answer session, he said, "We're building into all of our games the ability to pay for things along the way, either to get to a higher level to buy a new character, to buy a truck, a gun, whatever it might be."
He went on to say, "Consumers are enjoying and embracing that way of the business."
I'm guessing Jorgensen is looking at the DLC market or the free-to-play market for this last statement. In the freemium world, where players pay nothing up front and then fork over their wallets when they enjoy a game, they most certainly are enjoying and embracing that way of business. Diehard fans of games have no issues paying for extra DLC, even costumes and skins, and maybe that's what he's considering the most—give diehard fans a little more options to add to their fandom.
Either way, the statement has definitely polarized gamers' reactions across social media. Will this make you stop supporting EA's games, or does it sound like a sound business practice to you?
