Apex Legends Apex Pack

Apex Legends Crafting Metals, Apex Coins, and Legend Tokens microtransactions explained

Apex Legends contains three in-game currencies: Crafting MetalsApex Coins, and Legend Tokens. Each of these currencies is used to purchase cosmetic items or new characters, with them being obtainable by way of different methods. Respawn Entertainment has kept its battle royale game relatively streamlined, and though its multiple currencies can be head-scratching at first, their uses are fairly simple. Let’s take a look at how to earn Crafting Metals, Apex Coins, and Legend Tokens, what they unlock, and how to use them.

How to get Apex Legends Crafting Metals

Apex Legends Crafting Metals are necessary for unlocking certain cosmetic items, with character and weapon skins, banners, poses, and more locked behind the in-game currency. This means that in order to earn cosmetics in Apex Legends, you must invest some time and/or real-world cash in getting your hands on more Crafting Metals. It can be a lengthy grind for those who aren’t willing to lay down their money, but it’s still firmly achievable by way of leveling up and progressing through the game.

How to Earn Crafting Metals in Apex Packs

Crafting Metals pop up in Apex Packs. These are purchased using Apex Coins (we’ll get to that later), with 100 Coin opening one Pack. In these Packs (which are basically loot boxes), players will find a selection of randomized cosmetics. There’s also the possibility that Crafting Metals will drop, which can be used to purchase various cosmetics from either the Legends or Armory tabs.

These Crafting Metals drops aren’t exactly plentiful a lot of the time, and in order to unlock the game’s Legendary equipment, you’re looking a drop a lot of metal. It’s 1,200 Crafting Metals for Legendary gear, 400 for Epic, 60 for Rare, and 30 for Common across all cosmetics. This means that you’ll need to save up the same number of Crafting Metals to unlock a Legendary banner as you would a Legendary character skin. That’s a pretty unorthodox approach considering that character skins are typically the most sought after commodity in online shooters these days, but we guess Respawn has gotta make its money somehow.

How to get Apex Legends Apex Coins

Apex Coins are Apex Legends‘ premium currency, meaning that you can only purchase them by way of real-world money. The Coins are used to buy cosmetics and characters outright, or they can be used to invest in Apex Packs, which offer randomized loot.

The pricing of the game’s cosmetics has come under fire since being announced, with the in-game store currently featuring Legendary skins worth 1,800 Apex Coins. This translates to roughly $18, though considering 1,000 Apex Coins is the smallest denomination that players can currently purchase, $20 would need to be invested into the game in order to purchase this one skin. The microtransactions have already received some criticisms, though Respawn has kept them strictly cosmetic outside of the character unlocks.

How to get Apex Legends Legend Tokens

Legends Tokens are given to players when they level up, with them then being used to purchase unlockable characters or exclusive items displayed in Apex Legends‘ store. There are only two locked characters in the base game — Caustic and Mirage. Both cost 12,000 Legends Tokens, which is no small amount, so those looking to unlock the two characters can either get their grind on and start leveling up, or purchase them for 750 Apex Coins.
