A Dead or Alive 6 Evo Japan stream was taken offline today due to its NSFW content, with the fighting game tournament’s director apologizing to viewers for the broadcast. The offending footage was streamed to Twitch as part of an advertisement for DOA6, with the presenters placing the game’s characters in compromising positions, while models emulated the “jiggle physics” that the series is notorious for.
The incident came after presenters took to the Evo Japan stage in order to promote Dead or Alive 6. While showing footage of the game, the presenters paused the game in order to zoom in on an, ahem, “interaction” between two characters. While the moment didn’t exactly break Twitch’s Terms of Service, it was certainly questionable considering the official nature of the broadcast.
The clip can be viewed below:
However, two of the presenters then went on to pull down their shirts, spank each other, and try to mimic the breast physics that DOA is known for. This is what led to Evo pulling the stream offline, with it breaching Twitch’s TOS regarding sexual content.
The (very NSFW) moment can be viewed below:
Shortly following the decision was made to pull the stream, Evo director Joey Cuellar posted a now-deleted statement on Twitter: “The DOA ad that aired on our stream does not reflect the core values of Evo or the FGC,” he tweeted. “We ended the stream temporarily to protect the integrity of our brand. We sincerely apologize to our fans.”
Evo’s decision to briefly take the stream offline was met with some criticisms from viewers. However, considering that Evo is the largest fighting game tournament in the world, it’s understandable why Cuellar would disapprove of the DOA6 ad. Considering that Team Ninja has made key changes in order to make DOA6 more appealing as an esport, this controversy won’t be a welcome one for the developer.
It remains to be seen if this advertisement will harm Evo and Dead or Alive 6 publisher Koei Tecmo’s relationship moving forward, or if this incident will be swept under the rug. Considering that Cuellas swiftly his deleted his tweet, it could well be a case of the latter.
