In reaction to an article about the possiblity of an always-online next-generation Xbox, Adam Orth posted comments to his personal Twitter account, but it now appears as though Orth has left the publisher of Halo and Gears of War. According to "sources close to the matter" (like, possibly Orth himself), Orth is no longer with Microsoft following the debacle.
GameInformer says those sources related that Orth left his position of his own accord, stepping down in light of last week's shitstorm. It's a high price to pay when not-tweeting-about-it was probably an option available to Orth at the time, but these are dark days for video game fandom.
These days the techtonic plating underneath gaming executives big and small can open up and the molten hot lava of internet comments can be sprayed directly into the anus of any unsuspecting individual. I mean, certainly some of it is deserved.
Why would any smart Microsoft employee volunteer to confirm this dastardly always-online vision when a high-ranking executive will be forced to do it in June at E3? Let those guys go first! They've got nice suits and the money for dry cleaning after the shit hits the fan on-stage.
