Gamescom Opening Night Live streaming special coming with host Geoff Keighley

While may fans consider the Electronic Entertainment Expo to be the go-to place for exciting gaming news, there are also other big video game shows. Among them is Gamescom, the yearly gaming event held in Cologne, Germany. The organizers behind the show have a Gamescom: Opening Night Live showcase set to go, which will livestream worldwide. With it, we’re sure to get a few surprises before the event begins. And to host it, the team has called upon none other than Geoff Keighley.

You may remember Keighley from his old days at GameTrailers. But as of late, he’s been hosting the annual The Game Awards, which has been a growing show over the past few years thanks to its big awards and even bigger reveals. His presence at Gamescom may foreshadow that big things are in store for the show.

The livestream will take place on Monday, August 19, starting at 2 PM EDT. There’s no word on which live services it’ll stream through, but Twitch, YouTube, and Mixer seem very likely. We should have more information closer to the event.

The organizers haven’t revealed which companies will take part just yet. However, in the past, we’ve seen various ones like Sony and Microsoft step up. We might just see Nintendo enter the fray as well, along with third parties like Electronic Arts.

Considering that neither EA nor Sony will be at this year’s E3 event (and Microsoft’s kind of doing its own thing), Gamescom could be an ideal spot for them to showcase their upcoming goods. We’ll let you know who’s on deck closer to the event.

As for Gamescom itself, it takes place from August 20 through August 24. We’ll likely get more news from the event over the course of its duration. But all eyes are on that Opening Night and whatever that livestream reveals.
