It follows a hodge-podge group of middle school students that turn into kappas by sucking their “shirikodama” from their butts. Yeah. It has a wonderful sense of humor, plenty of musical numbers and there’s never a dull moment as the boys’ secrets are revealed in each episode.

The original 26 episode anime adaptation was quite beloved but it wasn’t fully accurate to the manga. That’s exactly what this reboot, which is airing on Crunchyroll, looks to correct. If you’re unfamiliar with the show, it revolves around an orphaned girl that winds up living with the Soma family, who hold a secret of being cursed and turn into Zodiac animals when hugged by a girl. It’s very light-hearted in nature and a ton of fun. Whether you’re returning to the series or a new viewer, it’s worth your time.

It’s a surprise that one of the best shows this season revolves around the traditional Japanese instrument the koto, but that’s exactly what Sounds of Life, which airs on Hulu and Funimation, is all about. It follows three oddly paired students that are trying to coexist and become a successful high school club. There’s a stuck-up child prodigy, the diligent leader, and even a delinquent student. However, their love of music has brought them all together. It’s a sweet show with a whole lot of heart.

If you’re looking for drama then Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba is just what you’re looking for. Airing on Crunchyroll, it follows a young boy that lives a quiet life with his family until they’re all murdered by demons. Even worse, his young sister was turned into one of the man-eating monsters that thirst for blood. Now he looks to find a cure while keeping her from becoming a murderer. It’s a sad tale with plenty of great action.

Another show that revolves around a bunch of students is the Crunchyroll comedy We Never Learn. It revolves around the main protagonist, Nariyuki Yuiga, as he attempts to tutor three students that are widely regarded as geniuses. However, they all want to go to pursue different fields than what they’re good at and he has to teach them to be more well-rounded. Featuring plenty of romance and fun dilemmas, We Never Learn is a blast to watch each episode.

While it’s probably the weakest title to make the list, Amazing Stranger is still worth watching on Crunchyroll thanks to its shorter episodes and fun premise. It revolves around your typical loser otaku that winds up buying a figure of his favorite anime waifu. However, things get especially strange when she comes to life and eventually becomes his tiny wife. It’s ridiculous and doesn’t take itself overly seriously, but that’s exactly why the comedy is an easy watch.

If you love mythology and fantasy creatures then you’ll find a lot of value in Midnight Occult Civil Servants, which is airing on Crunchyroll. It revolves around a new civil servant that winds up being assigned to their occult division since he has a special aptitude of being able to speak with supernatural creatures. The first few episodes have featured plenty of characters from both Asian and European folklore. It’s all ramping up as the main story gets going, so expect it to continue to get better as it airs.

Exclusively airing on Funimation, Sewayaki Kitsune no Senko-san is a faithful adaptation of the comedy manga of the same name. Despite looking like she’s 8 years old, Senko is actually a fox goddess that is 800 years old. Her current task is taking care of a workaholic man that never gives himself a chance to relax and enjoy life. It’s a lot of goofy comedy, and while it can get slightly creepy due to how young she looks, it hasn’t been sexual. Spring Anime 2019 Debuts | Carole and Tuesday
Quite possibly the most frustrating thing about this season of anime is that the best show isn’t legally available anywhere right now as Netflix has the rights to it and isn’t simulcasting it. Called Carole and Tuesday, it follows two lonely young women that have a passion for music. After a chance encounter, they wind up living together and start a band in a semi-futuristic world set on Mars where most music is made by artificial intelligence. They become unlikely hits after a video of them performing goes viral. It’s an adorable show with some great music.

Spring Anime 2019 Debuts | Mix: Meisei Story
A spiritual successor to Mitsuru Adachi’s hit baseball manga and anime Touch, Mix takes place at the same school decades later. Despite their previous triumph at winning the high school baseball championship, the school has retained little of its former glory. It’s up to two step-brothers to help the baseball team come to prominence again. It’s very similar to its predecessor in both story and tone, but it undeniably works. It’s airing on both Hulu and Funimation.
