Camelot Unchained Meets And Surpasses $2 Million Kickstarter Goal

Camelot Unchained has been one of the most popular games on Kickstarter during this year. Today, during its final hours of campaign it not only met its funding goal of $2 million but surpassed it by $232,933. Only hours prior it was the same distance short but MMO fans came together to pool $500,000~ just in-time for the deadline. The game has additionally received more than $3 million in funding simply hitting the goal following pledges made by the game's designer, and unnamed investors.

Many MMO fans are excited because of the game's promise to relive the visceral PvP of Dark Age of Camelot. Speaking of which, it's being made by City State Entertainment which is headed by Mark Jacobs, the original designer of both Dark Age of Camelot and Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. While WAR turned out to be a mess, DAoC is regarded as one of if not the most compelling PvP MMOs in the genre's history. Its Realm versus Realm dynamic was revolutionary at the time with hundreds of players battling for real-world objectives.

But it wasn't just the game's experienced management team that instilled confidence in Kickstarter users, it was the game's roadmap. The Camelot Unchained Kickstarter page is over 50 pages long with information and images that detail the game's races, philosophy, and gameplay principles. Sure, about half the pages tell pledgers what they can earn from donating, but the other half is just about the most exciting thing an MMO PvP fan has seen since pre-WAR release.

Presently, there is no expected release date for Camelot Unchained but given the history of other RvR games you'll be hearing plenty more as development goes on.
