Turbografx-16 Mini games list updated with Splatterhouse, and more

Last July, Konami released what many thought was the final list of games for the Turbografx-16 Mini retro console. However, it seems it wasn’t done yet. Konami released an updated Turbografx-16 mini games list with a number of new games, including classic beat ’em up Splatterhouse.

The updated games list comes via a new trailer that Konami released today. Splatterhouse joins the existing list of over 50 games on the English side of the catalogue. The Japanese side on the other hand gets Dragon Spirit, Galaga ’88, The Genji and the Heike Clans, The Legend of Valkyrie, Seirei Senshi Spriggan, and Spriggan Mark 2.

Released by Namco in arcades back in 1988, Splatterhouse takes inspiration from slasher films, most notably Friday the 13th and Evil Dead 2. The Turbografx-16 version actually represents the only home console port of this game, though it did later see releases on PC (albeit only in Japan) and mobile devices.

Most players from the 90’s who remember the game most likely played its sequels. Unlike the first game, Splatterhouse 2 and Splatterhouse 3 were Sega Genesis exclusives with no arcade versions. Others will more likely be familiar with the game’s 2010 remake on Xbox 360 and PS3.

Splatterhouse will be coming to both the Japanese and Western versions of the Turbografx-16 Mini (or PC Engine Mini as it’s known in Japan) when it releases on March 19, 2020. Unlike most other retro consoles in the market, the Turbografx-16 will have the same games list, save for a couple of games, in all regions. Some games will even have both Japanese and English versions on the retro console.

With this new trailer, it seems Konami has finalized the games list for the Turbografx-16. That said, the fact that these games were added after a previous list was released does raise the possibility of Konami possibly having more surprises in store. That said, even if they don’t do any more updates to the list, the Turbografx-16 Mini already has a pretty impressive library of classics.
