This ‘Pet Rock’ has become a Twitch Affiliate in 7 days

It’s amazing how resourceful humans can be when they are motivated by something, and this Pet Rock further proves that point. Not everyone can be a popular Twitch streamer such as Tfue or Amouranth, and it takes some determination to clear the Twitch affiliate requirements.

Despite being ostensibly low, these requirements aren’t as easy to beat as it sounds, given the immense competition. If you simply follow the trends and label yourself as a Fortnite player, you’re bound to get lost in a sea of streamers. Some out-of-the-box thinking is required to become an affiliate; maybe even a pet rock or two thrown in for good measure.

Streamer Pray4Cthulhu revealed that he became a Twitch affiliate just by streaming his pet rock for seven days straight. That is all there is to it, no additional flourishes or exciting narratives whatsoever to keep viewers entertained. It’s a rock with eyes, a few props to make for a change of scenery, and some random background music.

The Twitch affiliate program requires streamers to have at least 50 followers and broadcast 500 minutes over the last 30 days. The channel must also feature seven unique broadcast days and an average of three or more concurrent viewers. The pet rock channel ticked all those boxes and more, having 142 followers and 14 videos. The latest stream ran for over eight hours, as the pet rock hangs around at the cemetery, doing the same that it does in every other video: Nothing. Well, except for one where it does a flip.

“It’s art,” one viewer says. “This is my favorite streamer,” another viewer claims. Is this really art, though? Or is it a case of finding a clever workaround to overcome Twitch’s requirements, as someone hinted at: “I need to go back to the drawing board. Cthulu’s out here playing the system like a god.”

The pet rock is shooting for the stars and setting its sights on the coveted Twitch partner status. Now all that it needs to boost its followers is some sort of unfortunate wardrobe malfunction.
